Coios Mencía 2015

Tasting: Xosé Lois Sebio’s Viño de Encostas project focuses on fruit from old vines in vineyards that are farmed organically and biodynamically, often outside of traditional growing areas. The Mencía for Coios comes from the slopes of O Val in Valtuille, Bierzo, Xosé looks to source fruit at altitude to produce wines of exceptional freshness. Light bodied, but with the additional depth and ripeness that Bierzo brings, a nose of black earth, bramble fruits and spice is backed by a sumptuous yet refreshing palate of fresh, acidic blackberries, blackcurrant bush, slate and fine grained tannins.
